The vision of Westwood United Methodist
Church is to "offer Christ, grow in faith, touch lives, and make
a difference." It
is an important part of the church community. Westwood is known in Kalamazoo and
around the world for reaching out in pursuit of this vision.
Appalachia Service Project (ASP) - ASP is a relational ministry that helps make homes in
Appalachia warmer, safer & dryer. WUMC has been participating for over 25 years.
Teams of youths and adults travel to the mountains to take on the construction
projects and spread the Gospel by connecting with the peoples of the area.
Habitat for Humanity - From the beginnings of Habitat's
presence in Kalamazoo, WUMC has provided volunteer help in providing families affordable
housing. Visit their website - Kalamazoo Habitat
for Humanity.
Resurrection UMC (Voronezh, Russia) - Pastor Irina Mitina
heads this growing congregation in the heart of the former Soviet Republic. Gifts
of money and supplies help create new opportunities for the Russian people. The
church recently moved into a building partially funded by the generous donations of
the Westwood congregation. A team from all over the United States
traveled to Voronezh to help with some of the renovation needed in the
space.
